If anyone with a 1996 or so 238 Vista has one nearby and could give me a ballpark measurement of the small starboard lip attached to the front of the "L-Seat" I'd really appreciate it. I have been looking for days at the FourWinns site and the internet and can't even get a ballpark. I am planning to buy a piece of starboard and make this myself.

Is that the lip to set the inserts on to make it a sunbed? Does it cut across the backs of legs when someone sits on the seat? Just curious...

Thanks Steve!

And yes Niagara it's there to put the inserts on for the sunbed. I doubt it would hurt the back of anyone's legs as the seat is very low and your legs are really straight out when sitting here.

My boat is wrapped up now. Or I would get you the dimensions Chris.
When I rebuilt that seat last winter I debated if I was going to reinstall that piece. Ultimately I decided to put it back because it acts like a rub guard when you walk by the cushion. That way it protects the vinyl. It doesn't hurt your leg at all if you rub against it since it is well rounded.
You can see by the picture how long it is and it is only aprox. 4 inches wide with about 1 and a half inches sticking out. Does the underside of your bench have the holes and hardware/ nuts installed?

Neutron,
Thanks, I just pulled the boat home for a weekend of hopeful improvements before my Dad (the man who got me into boating) comes out for the week. I wanted to get this part on because we may do a couple of overnights and I wanted to sleep out on the deck. Doesn't look like that's going to happen as I never ordered the starboard scrap. But thanks for the dimensions, I can estimate the length but the width was a guess since I never had one.

The holes are there and I assume the nuts are there as well. I'll start checking in the morning.

The "nuts " are actually pressed into the wood from the topside of the board between the padding and the board. That way it will hold weight

Yes I remember that from my front seat repair. Do you have any idea how thick that piece is? I think it's probably 1/2" starboard...but the over thinker in me wants it to be 3/4" to be more durable.

I think it was closer to 5/8

On my 97 278 vista the "lip" varies. On the bench at the stern it sticks out 1". this is a fold down bench so floor clearance is an issue. On the bench forward of that the lip is 2" proud of the cushion.

I also have pegs on the cushions that mach up with the holes in the starboard to keep the cushions in place. If you have these pegs it might determine how much "lip" you need. Hope this helps.

I don't see any pegs, I think the 278 is different. My seat is and "L-shape" and once the one bar is unclipped from the floor the whole seat flips up on the hinges. There is no lip at the stern seat as it rests on the footrest bar.

Chris;

Ok, I have the exact measurements of that piece------ on my boat it is 40" long, 3" wide, and about 3/4" thick.
On mine- pointing to port, this piece has an approximately 4" radius end. I'll assume that any curve will do so as not to clip your feet or shin ......hope this helps!

Steve
