So I found a great place to get the clips for my accordion ladder (Xwerxdirect.com) and they are on their way. I started looking at the boat and I can't seem to figure out how I am going to mount them? I thought it would be fairly straightforward (silly me, right) but I can't find any access to the inside of the hull from the cabin? It seems to be monkey fur glued to the inside wall of the hull. Am I missing something? I kind of thought they were panels and I would just un-screw one and see where the cleat was attached and I would kind of place it a little aft of the cleat. does that make sense?

Can u put it far enough forward where u could access in the anchor locker?
Maybe the blonde in the picture could help.lol

Hey Chris not sure if this will help but go to the St.croix ladder website and they have a pic of where they secure the ladder. I looked into this ladder before and I recall but not sure that your supposed to secure the brackets as far as possible from one another to give the ladder a little stiffness so you can extend the ladder while on the bow and then lower to the beach w the strap without having to jump off the boat first.

Thanks, yes I understand how it's mounted. I ordered the brackets from xwerxdirect and downloaded the .pdf instructions from gr8-white...just didn't know how to access the inside of the hull. After locating where I want to mount it I realized I will have no problems accessing it through the anchor locker. Now just waiting on the mounts to get here.

So the Ladder mounts are on their way, this is where she will go (obviously higher up by the cleat)



and I thought I would spend a little time understanding drilling in the hull. So I mounted my prep table and finally got around to mounting the fire extinguisher. I was surprised to hear the fiberglass making a cracking sound as I screwed in the screws...I sure hope that's normal.









on top of that I removed, cleaned, sealed and patched my bimini, bimini boots, and mooring cover





wish I would have taken after pictures...but trust me it doesn't look great but is way better than what I had...and cost me about 5 bucks and a Sunday afternoon

Kidding aside, that looks good. You using the fillet table as extra prep space for the Magma grill?

Yes this weekend it will be a bait table for fishing with my Dad (but don't tell the admiral!) starting next week it will ONLY be used as a prep table for the grill like Neutron suggested a long time ago.

That's a pic of what I want too!

That may have been the gel coat, after drilling the hole, did you flare it out with a counter sink bit? If you do this, it will stop the gel coat from cracking around the screw.

Yes, to protect the gel coat from future cracks; it may not have been the gel coat you heard. A screw hasically tries to either cut into the resin/ glass, or if it's easier, to push the laminate apart. It's not a nice thing to do to fibreglass; a clearance hole with a machine screw and nut, with a large backing washer/ plate is a better method if you have access. I know FW uses screw directly in the fibreglass, it doesn't make it right !

This pic gives me a completely different mental image of "drilling in the bow".

Finally got around to installing the ladder... wasn't as difficult as I was fearing (always hate drilling holes in a boat) but it really is a job for two people...in the end I had to have the admiral hold the screwdriver while I reached in the anchor box and tightened the nuts. I am wondering how well it's going to work...can't wait until the next time on the lake!
