I Will be embarking on bypassing my galley sink from the shower sump to a direct route via thru hull fitting. I will let you know how it goes. I am scared about drilling the boat, but it will assist with the design flaw of my boat. Why they put it there in the first place to go overboard is beyond me. That sump gets nasty, and i do not like cleaning it so often. :D

I attempted this a couple years ago but found I could not get the fitting low enough to allow the sink to drain and still be above the water line. I heard of others doing this, but don't see how unless you run a new hose and exit it further back on the boat.

I will attempt placing magnets on the boat to see if the run is good enough, but thanks for the heads up. I may as you suggest go a little further back to get enough slope. I'm still wrapped up. Been so cold to do anything.

You can do it. I did it to ours. You can't align with the other thru hulls on that side, but you can run it down at an angle and still be above the water line. Remove the fridge. You may have to exit back through the cabinet in the head (I can't remember what we finally ended up doing).

It's 100% worth it. We don't shower on the boat, so now that sump stays dry... and sink water just goes straight over. It's a great change.

They didn't originally do that because of the gray water option... in that case the sump pumped straight into the gray water tank (requirement in the lakes region in the NE for example).

I did mine as well, and cougar is right. Virtually impossible to line it up with the other thru hull's on that side, but still very well worth it. We cook a lot on the boat and do a ton of dishes, I wouldn't want to imagine what would be left behind in the shower sump!
