Post subject:  Camper top and cabin cover?

Hi everyone,
Enjoying my first summer on our 268' but have a question about the canvas.
The camper top is a real pain in the butt to take off and put back on every time we use the boat.
We keep it in a slip in saugatuck, mi.
Can both the Bimini top and the cabin canvas be on at the same time?
Seems that would serve as protection from foul weather and protection from the sun (for us) without having to zip and snap for an hour!!

Thanks for any practical suggestions!

Whats a cabin canvas? If your referring to a mooring cover which just covers the cockpit and windshield you can get one that fits while the bimini is on. I have the factory mooring cover and it is much faster to put on and it stays dryer and cooler too since there are no windows for the sun to heat up and there are very few seams for the water to dip down. It has zippers up to the bimini posts so you can use both.

The camper canvas attaches to the bimini top.

Yes, the mooring cover! That's the one!

I assume it's the factory cover....so it will fit around the Bimini framing??

Thanks guys!

If not, it's not very hard for a boat canvas shop to modify so it does fit around the bimini framing. My factory cover does on my Chaparral (you can leave bimini up with mooring cover on), but on both my Four Winns and Stingray it didn't fit around the bimini frame and you had to fold it down.

Mine does fit with the Bimini up but like Ric said if it doesn't you can have a canvas shop modify it or have them build one from scratch. If your going to order the factory one just ask the dealer first.

On my '02 268 (without an arch) it is either the mooring cover or the canvas and isinglass side curtains for the camper top, but not both at once. We have to fold the bimini and put the storage cover on it. We trailer every weekend with the bimini folded and covered, and with the mooring cover on. The mooring cover attaches to the base of the windshield and covers the snaps for the camper side curtains and the loops for the bimini straps. The mooring cover uses many of the same snaps as the camper side curtains.

The two of us usually remove the 3 front isinglass sections (front and forward side sections) as one piece and roll it up in a bed sheet to protect the isinglass for storage. We remove the back 3 canvas sections as one piece and wrap that up in bed sheets also. This works best with two people! We wind up with 2 rolled up packages approx. 8 or 9 inches in diameter by 3 to 4 feet long that we store under the floor or on the bed in the aft cabin. If you are doing it alone it may be easier to separate all the pieces and stack them between layers of fabric, then roll them up. I have heard that some use a foam noodle to roll the curtains around. Others have used the bag that those fold up outdoor chairs come in, or some other storage bag. Hope this helps.

Great tips! Thanks!
I forgot to mention that I do have the radar arch too.

Does your Bimini and side curtains attach to the arch like the 2005 models, or is the arch separate like the 2000 models?

There are button attachments to the arch.
