So I have a leaky connector on my pressurized water system. Luckily it is in the engine room and easy access(hopefully the only one leaking) I found the whale fitting I need to buy, but I want to make a clean connection so I will cut the existing fitting off and patch if I need to. The question is do I need to buy the $45 special cutter tool or can I go to home depot and get a $25 pex tube cutter? Are the lines on a boat pex or special tubing? Or do I not even need a tool and can cut with a utility knife? |

The blue and red pipes are Whale, same company as the fittings. I have cut the pipes with whatever tools are at hand and I have never experienced a leak. Get the cut as square as you can and clean off any burrs. |

I would try to unseat, then reseat the fitting. Could be an easy fix. |

Okay, I will try to reseat. If that doesn't work I will just use a utility knife and start from scratch. Thanks |

You might have a tuff time with a utility knife if it's in tight places. I've found that a pair of gardening snips (the ones you would use to cut a 1/2" branch) work very well for the PEX pipe. |

So the line must have pulled out a little. It is the city water line that runs across the stern in the engine compartment. I pulled the line out which just about fell out, cleaned it and pushed it back in. I had the pump on all day and it didn't leak. It isn't the best setup either I or a mechanic may have bumped into it and tugged it out. |
