Post subject:  General Questions

I have spent the last 3 weekends on my 2004 (New to Me) Vista 268 and have a couple of rookie question.

The poles for the table or bed support in the vberth as well as the one the deck, is there some secret to getting them out easly after you have put them in? I seem to struggle with them every time and finally give up only to come back later and the darn thing just comes out. I am not sure if some lubricant would help matters or just make a mess.

Also when you put the cockpit cover on and snap it across the bottom of the winshield how do you get off the front of the boat? It seems a little challenging to step over the windshield when the cover is there so jumping to the dock seems to be the only alternative.

Thanks for any response..

IMHO. lubricant would just make a mess. Make sure the hole is clean. Any debris greatly increases the effort needed. I've found the easiest way is to gently wiggle it while pulling up. Less force seems to work better than brute force.

With our 248, we simpley leaned over the windshield to snap the cockpit cover on. It's more of a stretch now with our 288.

Thanks for your reply and guess I will just to have to make sure the hole is clean.

Guess I can try and lean over the windshield and snap it, I have not tried to do it that way, it just seemed natural to do it from the front until I realized I trapped myself. :o

When the boat is sitting on a trailer, the ground is a long way down from the foredeck!

The "wiggle method" has always worked for me on our 268, for
removing the cabin table leg.
The first time, It was stuck in there so hard, I had to use a
strap wrench to get it out. Since then, a little wiggle, and it is free.
We are in a slip, so we fasten the cockpit cover from the windshield
first, and then work our way to the stern. Just hop off onto the dock
move to the stern to finish it.

After snapping on the front of the cockpit cover, I jump to the dock. I always jump tot he side with the big house boat so it will stop me so I don't proceed into the water in the next slip. I couild lean over the windshield, but don't like putting weight on it.
