Okay here goes the first of many questions. What is the proper setting for the battery selector switch when on Shore Power? Coving? Running? |

That also depend on what you want to do? The best source of info is from your neighbors at your marina/club. If not mistaken, the V268 has a starting battery and a house battery. It it is wired like my old V258 (which I changed) the house was ALWAY powered by the house battery but to start the engine you could switch between the two batteries. I changed it so ether the whole boat was on #1 or #2 battery, Why, that way I could run the house on ether battery and have full controll. I did install 2nd house battery and added a combiner with a 2nd charger. This give my more time before I needed to start the engine. I would go out on the #1 battery and come back to my slip on the #2 battery. This would also tell me that ether battery alone could start the engine. |

Four Winns does have online owner's manuals, parts catalogs, and specifications on their website. Go to www.fourwinns.com and look under "Customer Service". You can select your year and model. The owner's manual for the 248/268 is extensive and goes in to detail on how the 268 is wired. It also includes descriptions of how to operate virtually all of the boat's systems. What options are included? Generator? AC? |

Dude53 wrote: Okay here goes the first of many questions. What is the proper setting for the battery selector switch when on Shore Power? Coving? Running? here is what the manual says ON- for normal boating - engine is using engine battery and all other equiptment is using house battery. when boat is running both batteries will be charged Ships systems- engine and all other equiptment will be running off the house battery. both batteries will charge when boat is running parallel- batteries will be used in parallel and will both be charged when running. When the boat is running i would have it in the ON position and when i would stop to cove out i would switch to ships system ( this would leave the starting battery untouched so you would not get stranded if you ran down the ships system battery) Switch back to ON position when you start the boat. Parallel- I would only use this in the case of an emergency where you have 2 low batteries and you need to pull from both to get it started and then switch back to on after it starts. It says both batteries used for engine and both batteries used for other 12 volt equiptment |

If it is on ship systems you can drain the starting batteries. |
