I have a 268Vista and am having an issue with the toilet. I believe I have an electric toilet (not a toilet expert) and I can hear the pump (?) which is located under the closet to the right of the toilet running on. It is making a noise similar to what a bilge pump makes but the system is off, by off I mean the switch in the toilet is in the off position and so is the water pump switch. I put the battery in the off position but it still was running but when I turned off the "Ships Systems" breaker it stopped. I know that sometimes a bilge pump can get jammed, is that possibly the same thing happening here? Any ideas or experience will be helpful. |

The pump to the right of the toilet would be the shower sump. They are notorious for sticking in a position you don't want them in, due to the float switch getting gummed up with soap. Be thankful it's stuck on. Could be very hard to get to, or very easy, depending on what person installed the sump. On mine, the jerk at the factory put a bunch of hoses on top of it, so it's nearly impossible to access. One has to remove the cabinet to the right of the head to get to this pump, but it's a fairly straight forward job. You can pull the shower sump fuse in the meantime. |

+1 on the shower sump pump. It is accessible thru the cabinet floor just aft of the head. Its a bit of fun to get to and a little uncomfortable kneeling and working in that confined area. Remove the 1x1 strips inside the cabinet that go over the access panel in the cabinet floor, and remove the panel. The shower sump is a rectangular box with a clear plastic lid, not quite as big as a shoe box. There is an electrical plug to disconnect the two wires, two fluid hoses, and a Velcro strap holding the sump in place. As I recall, you'll need a 5/16" nut driver or socket for the hose clamps on the fluid lines. You may have to move some of the plumbing around to get the sump box to come out, but it can be done. I wound up replacing the Attwood float switch the first time, and sump pump and float switch the second time. Pull the box out and replace what the parts or install a new one. If you go with a new one, make sure it is the same size box. A larger sump box may not fit. Hope this helps. |

So obviously my problem is the shower sump and not the toilet. I greatly appreciate the info received. Since I will probably never use the shower the simple fix was to pull the breaker. I can only hope all fixes are this easy!! |

I don't understand the "I won't ever use it so I'll just disable it" mentality. I'd think that on a boat, one would want to have all systems working 100%. It's not even that hard of a fix. To each his own, though; glad you found a solution that works for you. Glad we could help! |

As Stewie would say "Don't Judge me Man!!". In the month and a half that I owned the boat I've repaired the power steering, the trim tabs (leak), replaced the batteries, started the process of adding a windless, repaired (replaced) the screens, replaced aging water line connections (leaking) on the water system, replaced the cabin lighting (to LED), repair some jell coat damage, not to mention working a job, maintain two homes, and supporting three kids and a wife in their endeavors. So if for the next few weekends of the summer I want to just enjoy the boat, then so be it. By the way, I am a facetious SOB that truly loves this boat and everything that I have done to it I learned from this site. Thanks to all. |

I'm not certain is the 268 is wired similar to our 298 in regards to that sump pump, but our breaker forces the bathroom sump pump to run, regardless of the float. When the breaker is off, the pump comes on when triggered by the float switch. An easy check is turn off that forward sump breaker, dump some water down the bathroom floor drain and see if the sump still comes on by the float switch when it's filled up. If not, it's wired differently then a 298, and likely the float switch is not working. |

On the 268, it's run through an ATO fuse by the helm. There are only a few DC breakers on the 268's 12V cabin/cockpit systems, and they are high-current ones feeding panels, etc. Sounds like the 298 enjoys a better DC system. |
