New to me 2007 318 Vista and trying to chase down some audio gremlins - no FM
on cockpit audio system and helm remote has a variable number of controls that
work from time to time. Also no AM in either unit - I found the microswitch that
steps the tuning down from US 10khz steps to rest of the world 9khz steps but
still no signal.

So looks like I need to make sure that all of the connections into the back of the head units
are snug. Could remove the bottom unit to get access to wires OK but not the cockpit
system - seems to be hung up inside the panel.

In order to open the hinged electrical panel it looks as if the cabinet door has to come off -
cannot find any of those release triggers that the higher end hinges have - so question for
those that have been there before - do the hinges need to come completely off to fully
open the panel or have I missed something?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I believe they do. My '08 has the one tall door for both the stereos and breakers. IIRC, but it has been two years, the hinges and all had to come off to be able to swing the panel out.

I can't help you with the cabinetry etc, but on the 3 Four Winns boats I have had the factory FM antenna has been a weedy 6" long piece of orange wire. Totally useless; we could only ever get 1 radio station on all of them and only in 1 bay (it was from Ireland, 65 miles westwards with no land inbetween!) Extending the wire/ connecting it to an above deck piece of steel improved the reception enormously

Thanks for the info - so its cabinet door off then.

And thanks for the tip on the radio antenna - or lack thereof... makes sense in terms of no AM reception. will investigate further.

Thanks to you both.

The bow rail makes a nice antenna. Not a perfect one, but better than a short piece of wire in close proximity to all kinds of RFI generating devices.
