Post subject:  Winterizing the multiple systems on a Vista

I've been asking all over getting lots of opinions on this subject. Where I live in Northern Alabama, the weather does get cold enough to freeze and even snow. But it rarely stays below freezing very long, and this past winter was the first measurable snow we'd received since I've been here in four years. It melted away by lunch time.

In any case, I do know of boaters in this area who used their boat year-round without winterization, however the bulk of the opinions are to winterize. I would expect as much, "Why risk it" type of opinions, and I certainly agree with that. However, I would really like to be able to use the boat year-round.

My options seem to be as follows:

  • Do nothing, use as normal
  • Winterize and re-winterize after each use (est 2-4 times per month)
  • Invest in a bilge heater

I will winterize the fresh water system, head/holding tank regardless. Aside from that the rest of the winterization involves the genset, Reverse cycle heat/AC system and engine. All three are in the bilge, so keeping it warm is all that should be needed, no?
