35k in damage and they didn't total it? I'd have a talk with my insurance agent, maybe get a lawyer. |

Bummer! Do you have more details and/or photos? What hit you? How did it happen? |

Sorry to hear that! I would put it back in. Without it, the boat is worth less$$. Also, when it comes time to upgrade. Their going to expect a shower, not a closet. |

His 2004 Vista 248: https://mikellydonahue.shutterfly.com/pictures/11 The last thing you would want is for the insurance company to total it. Then they keep the hull and you cannot salvage anything. Much better if they write you a big check and then you have the option of buying another one and selling the engine, drive and other parts from this one. But you have not mentioned if you are insured. Was it parked at your dock when it was hit? |

Let me make one thing clear!! I am NOT saying the boat is "worthless" I am saying it will bring down its value so it is worth less money with out it. |

I mean worthless like you'll never sell it unless at an incredible loss, including the mark down you already in place for having accident damage even if it's repaired. I'm talking like that boat will resell without a head and repaired for like 15-18k. Still should get at least low-mid 20's just fixed and not the most important feature removed. |

Then they keep the hull and you cannot salvage anything. I don't know - a larger check for totaling it, not having to go through the hull - selling off the scraps (not to mention - who is going to trust a motor/outdrive from a wrecked boat) and what not via craigslist and ebay.... And deals with bidders who do not pay, or craigslist flakes who - when they do show up to buy a $300 item - do the "Well -- All I have is $80" line.... The headache is not worth the minimal price difference. The Insurance will ship it off to a company - they will part it out and dispose of the hulk. Then you also don't have the fiberglass hulk sitting around..... BUT - that was not the question posed. I know that when the time comes to go bigger I want a boat that has a head and shower. A closet is dead space and adds no value, where a head keeps the (wreck reflected) value better. That lack of a head would give a buyer a big area to haggle on you with, and you would (more likely than not) end up with a much lower selling price. |

2004 248 and they want to fix it for 32k? Total the boat and take the check. You won't get 32 selling it. At least here in Florida you can get 2004 248's all day long for 22-25 fully optioned with AC. One just sold at my marina this summer for 21 (2004). |
