I went on an eBay spree and order a Powerwinch RC30 remote control winch with 11,5000 Lbs capacity and I also won the bids on a Lewmar V700 Windlass.

I got the winch for $383.00 shipped and the Windlass for $548.00

I think I did good on the prices! And so, the "Christmas Shopping" has begun, early! :)

After our last trip to the lake, a windlass would be very nice. I am jellous.

BTW, you got me pricing out garage/carports for the boat and 5th wheel. I hope that will be my christmas :D

Yep I am sick and tired of lugging up 20' of chain and that heavy anchor by hand! It wears me out!

The garage is on the back burner again. I decided to hold off till summer to put it up, my friend is storing the boat in his huge heated pole building this winter. Gives me more time to get my funds in order.

Who came up with the 20' of chain??? Thats what was in my 248 as well.
On our last boat (245 sundowner) I used 6' of chain and NEVER had an issue with the anchor setting.

Infact I cut 7' of chain off to lighten it up a tad. We didn't have any problems on our last trip out, and it held in 30-40 MPH winds blowing from all directions. :| A windlass is on the list though.

The more chain the better. 20' of chain leader is a common length used. I would prefer an all chain rode if it wern't for cost. It's just miserable to haul up :)

My anchor has yet to drag, and I set in a river with current, so far it's set on the first try each time.

I've had an Rc30 powerwinch for a year now. My launch and loading of my 210 Horizon ends up being a 1 man operation, when I go out with the family (my wife can't back the trailer or pull the boat on it). It saves me from having to hop on and off the boat when pulling it back up on the trailer. After I back the trailer in, I hook the battery to the winch, extend the cable 2 feet or so, tighten the clutch and get back on the boat. I then power the boat up on the trailer, reach over the bow, grab the cable and hook it to the bow eye. I then push the remote and whammo I'm done. I can load the boat on the trailer w/o getting my shoes wet. A lot of the boat ramp bystanders, looking for cheap entertainment, are impressed by the ease of my operation.

One word of advice. Make sure the remote is turned off when you're done. It does not turn off by itself and the remote battery will burn out. It this does happen you have a red button on the winch to operate it. I think you'll be happy with it!

Doug,

The RC30 won't make getting on the trailer that easy for me.. There is no reaching down around my bow :) But it will make getting it up on the trailer much easier for my winchman (usually my Dad and it takes all he's got to get the thing winched up to the bow rollers).

Thanks for the tip about the remote!

I likeee!!!!

Do these winches require a separate battery? Can you explain how they would get hooked up?

Bout time!!! :) Whatever you do bro make sure you hook up the windlass to a car battery to verify it's not DOA like my first one was! Looks like I owe you the rest of the pics, which isn't a problem I bought a much nicer dig. camera. Give me a call if you have any question about putting it in 443.417.6398

That smaller anchor locker access is going to be a PITA You might want to open up that hole to a 10" dia like mine. I'll get more pics up in my thread and send you any more you need. Windlass was the sweetest mod yet (by far). Cant imagine not having it, it's very crowded where I drop anchor. Especially since I either go out alone or a bring a different 100lb girl every weekend - these girls would never be able to act as wenches.

At 100lbs each, they wouldn't even make a good anchor! :) Hey, edit out your phone number from the post, I got it! thanks. I will reply in depth tonight.

The goodies arrived safe and sound and are new in the box as described and both work fine (I tested the windlass because I've heard of people getting them brand new with a bent shaft, not sure how that happens).

The winch will be getting installed very soon, the windlass I'm not sure yet, I need to evaluate the situation and see what all will be involved.

Why can't anything be simple? I just have to ask....

So I go to install the winch, this should be a task so simple a cave man could do it, right? Just take three bolts out, remove the manual winch and bolt the new one in it's place, right? Apparently there isn't a "standard" for the hole location on which mounting plates? I have to drill at least one new hole.

I just love it...
