The center hub which bolts to the splined steering wheel on our 2006 288 Vista was originally chromed. However, the chrome plating is peeling of and looks bad. I checked on having it re-chromed and the best price is $100...yikes! Wondering if anyone has one from a wheel which was replaced for one reason or another. More specifically, this hub is 3.5" in diameter, has six bolt holes around the circumference and has a Four Winns logo in the center. Thanks for checking out this request. |

I had a V258. For the same reason I replaced my wheel. I used a gear puller to get it off. |

Take a picture of said hub. If you mean the adapter hub? As in the hub bolts to the steering mechanism, and the steering wheel bolts to the hub? Dude just have that thing powdercoated black for like $30 bucks. |

Technically, this item is not a hub as it is more of a plate that fastens to the steering wheel with 6 screws. It's purpose is to cover the access to the nut that fastens the wheel to the splined shaft. tried to get a pict. posted but having difficulty. |

Has anyone tried to remove the chrome plating from such a hub cover ? An awful job. Diecast zinc/ aluminium alloy (soft), copper sub plating then the chrome. It is not easy at all. Using a mechanical means ( sanding, blasting) any exposed areas of the corroded alloy are eroded very easily, whilst the harder chrome and copper remain ! I even tried electrochemical deplating. Lovely colours, but a waste of time.I gave up on reconditioning mine and made a plastic one ( polycarbonate), welding 2 sheets together and sprayed satin black. Looks OK, I'll take a photo when I'm next on the boat. |

That's it and you are right on about getting the chrome off of this thing. Making one out of Lexan or acrylic may be an option. Thanks guys for sending your thoughts and ideas. Perhaps one will surface from a salvage boat. ![]() |

Put on a good stainless steel wheel with a spinner knob. Plated aluminum junk has no place in a marine environment. That's what I did..... |

You can install any steering wheel you wish. There's literally 100's of styles to pick from don't have a mindset where you have to stick with the same style that came from the factory cause that's just whatever they had at the time in the parts bin. |

Didn't "spinners" used to be popular on auto steering wheels as well ( but not in Europe !) With the power steering on boats now, surely there's no need for them? Steering is possible using finger pressure only. |

Docking a single engine single prop sure is easier when you can spin the wheel quick. Here in the U.S., spinner wheels are virtually standard on fishing style boats. Not one of them has a sports car style wheel like you see on Four Winns and other sport boats. |
