Has anyone changed the battery switch for one that can use either 1 or 2 or both. Is there a reason why I shouldn't do this? On my last boat I had a start battery and a deep cycle for anchoring. |

If your boat already has dual battery banks, then what style of switch does it have if it doesnt have a combined position? Installing a 2nd battery bank is not a huge mod, but its more than just a switch. |

It has the original on-off switch with no 1-2- both option. It is an easy change but I wonder why the factory only put in the simpler switch. Where they going cheap or is there a reason for no option but on or off? |

I found the answer, it all happens automatically so no need to manually switch from start to house battery's. Fancy boat! |

Ok, so your boat does indeed have 2 battery banks, but just a simple 2 post ON/OFF in line on the main cranking battery cable. Sounds like its using a diode isoloator. This is a simple and effective system, but does have a couple of cons. 1, is that you can get up to a .7V drop across the diode pack. 2, you cannot use the house bank for an emergency starting battery. You can rewire/reconfigure the system and install a traditional dual-bank switch in place of the original on/off. Requires some cabling along with the switch. |
