Post subject: | PLEASE HELP - 1997 238 Vista - Shower leak in the cabin |
Hello, We bought a used 1997 238 Vista about 6 months ago. It has a head and shower (optional according to the manual) in addition to the galley sink. The galley sink drains just fine out the side of the boat, but when we use the shower, the water leaks into the cabin in the area on the floor outside the shower/head stall. We replaced the shower pump and verified it is working. We removed the panel against the hull in the under berth sleeping quarter to look at the pipes there, but they look fine. We also removed the top step, but can't see where to access the drain lines. We don't know how to trouble shoot from here and would greatly appreciate any advice. If anyone knows how the drain lines run or how to access the sump under the shower, it's greatly appreciated! ![]() |

Hi...I have a '96 238 w/ the shower........if you look at the molded fiberglass bottom near the doorway, you may see a gap-- I just caulked that area on my boat and all was fine......try that. Water could be splashing against the head door and running down between that pan and the door onto the carpet in the cabin.. -Steve |

Steve, thanks so much for the suggestion. I failed to mention that it's a considerable amount of water, probably all the water that goes through the drain that ends up in the boat cabin. The water from the shower drain doesn't seem to be flowing through the grey water system. We are going to try and run a snake wire from the shower pump pipeline into the cabin to see if it's a clog. We're worried that it might be that the sump is not properly connected to the grey water drain line. |

I have a 89 245 not sure if your set up is the same . but my discharge hose was split after the pump . my hose went back to the bilge area , I tied a string to the end in the bilge and pulled the old up towards the cabin,. tied sting to new hose and pulled back to bilge. little bit of a PTA but not too bad |

It sounds like either your sump pump is not running or you have a leaking hose or connection. Make sure the fuse(s) for the sump pump are good and the pump wires are connected. Soak up all the water you can in the bilge. Inspect the drain hoses and fittings. Use a flashlight and mirror to see what you can. After removing the water and drying things, you might try the blue paper towel trick. Blue paper towels change color when wet and might help locate the leak. Start pouring water in the shower drain. The pump should run occasionally, maybe 4 to 8 times per gallon. If the pump does not run you might have a leak, a disconnected hose, a stuck float switch, or a blockage between the shower drain and pump. If a new sump pump and box assembly was installed, make sure the hose connection ports on the box were opened. The box typically has 4 ports for different size hoses. The installer has to cut open the correct size ports for the hoses on that boat. If the pump runs occasionally you might have a leak or did connected fittingbetween the box and the overboard fitting or holding tank. You didn't mention where the boat is located. Is it possible that water froze in the plumbing and broke something ? Hope this helps. Gary. |
