My 99 258's portlights dont open, not even in the head  Is there anyway to "upgrade" through Four Winns or straight through the manufacturer?? Are they Taylor Made (couldnt find any designation)?

According to the manual posted on the FW site, the cabin windows are fixed, only the aft cabin and hatches open for ventilation.

You should be able to replace then with opening portlights from lewmar, bomar, etc. You'll just need to measure the opening and see if they have a model that fits the opening. If they don't you'll have to go larger so the hole can be opened a bit to fit. The windows are expensive. I had one replaced under warranty on my 288 and the price was over $400 for the portlight.

Well every time I search Vista 258's I do see a lot with opening portholes. I imagine since some of them are bone stock that the owners didnt upgrade "just the portlights" and left the rest of the boat stock. Example:
http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1461601/0

Notice the head portlight is openable. I will call FW parts and ask Greg about it too. Its just really annoying when you have to "go" and cant open any window in the head for ventilation :D

I wouldn't be suprised if they made changes mid production. They changed a couple of minor things wiuth my boat such as the style of actuators on the helm switches and added a grab rail or two.

Here is the parts catalog, list an opening portlight.

060-0084 PORTHOLE ELLIPTICAL OPENING #81830-4WS
*Valid for boats produced from 06/28/94 thru 01/16/99
UOM: EA Qty: 3.00 Contact your dealer for pricing.

Your HIN number will tell you if your boat falls within this production period.

My '99 258 was one of the last ones made and it has opening ports. I would suggest that if they don't leak do not mess with them. Save your money and install AC you'll be much happier. Buy the way any luck with table?

YES I am having a table custom built today actually. Its going to cost about 1/2 as FW is charging and going to be my custom choice of laminate (hunter green marble).

In the meantime, I dont want to add A/C because of the addtl weight. I'd rather have an opening portlight in the head 8)
