Was planing to buy the strut pro and do it myself. Yard wants $1600 What size prop shaft do I have and anything I should look for in new bearings? Probably resell strut pro when I am done. Thanks |

1600 seems a little high. does that include haul out fees as well? It's probably a couple hours of labor on each side (it takes 2 people) to get the shafts out. Figure 3-4 hours for removal. Figure an hour per side for removing the strut bearing and installing the new one. Best case scenario. Then figure another 3-4 hours (remember, 2 people) to get everything re-installed. The bearings themselves are probably 150-200 per side? Let's just round to 100/hour... You are looking at 6-8 hours for R&R of the shafts, and at least 2 for the cutlass bearings themselves... So, you're at 900-1000 in labor alone. Add in parts, haul out fees, etc -- it all adds up. It's a boat. How much do you think you'll save by trying to do it yourself? Does your yard charge differently for laydays and haul out if they are doing the work versus someone else? You might save the labor, but your time is worth something... is it worth it? by the way, while you have the shafts out, it doesn't hurt to spin them on a lathe to ensure straightness, and have the props R&R'd as well. |

Thanks but I am going to do it with the strut pro myself. Should cost about $500. My problem is I don't know what strut pro or bearings to buy. Four Winns just sends me a diagram of my strut with no real info. Can't get anyone to say what size the bearings are or what the strut bore is. The shaft is 1.25 |
