Mine is located at the shifter... Yours likely is too. Seeing as all you did was change the shifter that's where I put my money.

Have to agree with alex. I think he's right on the money.

The neutral safety switch would prevent the engine from turning over if the shifter was not in neutral. The engine turns over no problem, just never starts. So it couldn't be that right?

Yes the n.s.s. would not allow it to crank if it was not in neutral. But the kill switch would only kill the ignition. What about this one, did you install a kill switch or do anything with the wiring? I know when I was looking at installing this (my boat has never had one) you'd have to wire this into the ignition circuit so no spark if its not hooked up...

Didn't touch the old kill switch. But we tried a replacement just to be sure. Still did not start.

Sorry Chris, I was thinking the NSS worked like the kill switch, but I guess it just drops power to the starter.
So you're getting 12V to starter but not at fuel pump and no arch at spark plugs.

Let us know if the relay fixes it.

Best regards,
Doug

Yep... Looking back to this weekend when my kid had put my boat in forward it would not turn over...

Hmmm.... I still think it's in the shifter.

I know it's a terrible thing to suggest. Lol. But read through your manual on the shifter. I'll bet there is some type of safety on that new style shifter that wasn't on your boat originally. You may have to put a jumper wire or something somewhere. Good luck and keep us posted. What model is shifter if I get some time I'll do some searching. Are there any harnesses you didn't use?

Thanks Rick,

I have gone through the shifter manual, it's a ch1751p. The manual is not very detailed, but the mechanic who put it in is very knowledgeable, I wouldn't think he missed anything, but I checked the manual myself anyhow. I couldn't see a problem. I did not use the emergency kill switch that came with it or the tilt switch...which is odd because the model I ordered was not supposed to come with those parts....but they are absolutely separate switches they were not connected in any way. I also did a Google search and have come up empty...the only real possibility that I found (mind you I am far from a mechanic) is perhaps when running one of the cables through the battery got shorted to something and blew a fuse or burnt some electrical component...but not sure where to look. The mechanic will be back today and I'll post here when we figure it out. Thanks for all the support.

Well mechanic text says he can't get part today, maybe tomorrow. Not a great way to start the holiday weekend.

Just looked at the manual and I don't think its the shifter anymore.

Looking at photos I see your ignition safety switch is located just below your shifter.... Any chance a wire got knocked the off the back during the shifter swap?

Thanks Alex, we did not use the safety switch included with the new shifter, never touched my old one that was already mounted in a different location (didn't want to leave a hole) But we also disconnected the old, and replaced it with the new one, then just used a piece of wire. still no start.

I even called seastar solutions to see if there was something different because the one I ordered (ch1751p)was not supposed to come with a tilt or kill switch(ch1752p) , but they said there was no other difference (glad I didn't pay the $100 extra dollars for that)

Ric, already tried that, however in looking at my schematic, I see that there is a 15 amp fuse leading to this switch, I'll be damned if I can find it? any idea where else I might look? Checked fuse block under dash, checked in engine room block...no idea where this fuse is.

Looks like 2 purple wire going into and out of Kill switch.
One goes to the ignition switch. That one doesn't have the fuse.
Trace the other purple wire and see if there is an in-line fuse somewhere.

Looks like 14ga wire (15 amp)? Could you bring a temporary 12V wire to that side of the kill switch?
The thought being to bypass any fuse that you can't find and see if that's the issue.

Looks like you could also pull 12V directly to purple contact on ignition if that's easier. Same test.

Just a thought

Doug

Turn your key to ignition on position and see if your hour meter kicks on. The power for the meter is on the same circuit as the ignition. If it's not getting power you are looking in the right area.

Also, I think that symbol on the ignition circuit, the half circile with a stick on top, is a circuit breaker... You don't happen to have one mounted to the top of your engine do you? If so push it.
