Post subject:  288 cabin gas-like odor revisited

After sifting through numerous posts regarding this issue, has anyone been able to resolve where this gas-like odor is coming from. There appears to be a great diversity of opinions on this issue. This is the second year with this boat (2006 288) and noticed this odor faintly last year but while cruising for two weeks, we did not notice this odor as strong as it is now. In our case, we get this odor as we descend into the cabin and it is particularly strong in the aft cabin. We have discovered this odor is embedded in the aft cabin cushions/mattresses and memory foam topper we put in place last year. This past weekend, we removed these cushions/mattresses and other foam cushions of the same type of foam. We have also opened the boat up completely as the boat is stored in an inside rack storage facility. I will note that we closed the boat up completely last winter. We have not run the AC and this odor is not present in the bilge which to me rules out the gas leak smell. I question the gas tank leeching theory as I believe I would get this odor in the bilge as well. This is a reach, but I wonder if it is the aging foam that could be the origin of this odor? Sorry to come back to this, but I would appreciate hearing from those with a similar problem, present and past. Thanks.

John,
You explained perfectly the same smell and location we had last year. Our smell was unfortunately linked to the fuel pump assembly pushing vapors past it's body sealing o rings. It was hard to diagnose because I was looking for a drip based on how strong it was. Not a cheap fix but we don't have a hint of fuel smell this year after replacing it
