Hey guys, So went down to the boat the other day, and the radio wasn't working. The deep cycle battery ended up being dead (the cranking battery worked), and I figured that this was the reason for the radio not coming on. Unfortunately the reason (I believe) that the battery was dead was that I hadn't been using the boat much past couple weeks due to weather and mechanical issues), and also when I looked at the connections, I saw it wasn't connected to the onboard battery charger. Hooked it up, and figured I'd come back in a day and the battery would be charged up and the radio would work. I was half right. When I came back the batteries are both charged up, well I believe they are ... they are putting out about 13-14 volts on the voltmeter, but the radio still didn't work. I checked the power at the harness, and was getting 8-9 volts. I went back to the fuseblock in the engine compartment where the radio fuse is, and when I disconnected it, I was getting the same 8-9 volts at that spot. So there was almost no drop from the engine compartment to the radio, but a large drop from the batteries to the fuseblock, which are only about a foot and a half apart. Does it sound like the batteries are bad or is there just something going on with the cables from the batteries to the fuseblock? Any ideas are appreciated, thanks! Jason Edit ... So it was the batteries, two new ones and everything is working fine |

FW is known for its poor wiring. You may have to run up say a 12AWG from the battery switch to the radio. |

I am thinking that you are seeing 13 volts at the battery from the charger?? Make sure the charger is off and recheck the battery voltage, and willing to bet that the batteries are gone... |

Thanks for the replies guys, I changed out the batteries, and that helped at first, but the real culprit was a bad ground by the sending unit. Everything is working now. |
