I cleaned out the A/C seawater stainer today. (First time, new boat), it was full of some very nasty stuff, slime, worming looking things even some small barnacles. The A/C was running with water flowing when I started. After cleaning all the junk our of it and reassembling, I have no water flow and no A/C. First, is it necessary to prime the pump after cleaning and if yes, how is that accomplished. The bigger problem I am betting is lousy flow through the strainer. There is no way all that crud should have been in there is the water was flowing properly.

Any/all help is appreciated.

Sounds like you have an air pocket which we deal with everytime we trailer the boat. The quickest way is to shut off the ac, grab a water hose, turn it on and jam it against the thru hull on the side that spits out the ac water. Sometimes you can hear and see the air bubbles come up from under the hull. Shoulfnt take more than 20 seconds to clear it then turn ac back on

Stick your shop vac on the outlet of the thru hull and then start sucking

Crack the top of the strainer open and turn on the a/c. When the strainer gets full tighten it up and that should prime the pump. If not take the boat for a ride and turn on the a/c

I see you solved your problem. I have this issue every time I go to the boat because my boat sits on a lift. I've used all the techniques described but the easiest way I've found in my situation to remedy this is using this plunger that was about $2 from the local big box store. I just compress the plunger and slide it across the discharge and release and the pump is primed. Takes about 5 seconds. Just thought I'd pass it along. Bliss36 gave me the idea when he used his big water cannon to pull the water into his. I noticed a hesitation starting my AC over the weekend and had to clean my strainer out as well.
