I have a 2008 four winns with volvo penta 5.7, engine was seized when I bought it

I bought a remanufactured engine (including heads) and hjave spent the last few weeks switching them out in spare time.

Reman engine was already at top dead center so I set distributor at cylinder 1.

Fuel pump was not working so $800 dollar later have a brand new one.

I also invested $700 in the diacom marine software to try and get a heads up if anything else was amiss

Software is showing no error codes at all, but engine will not start, it turns over fine

Please give me some tips where to start checking?

thanks

Terry

Hook up a timing light to #1 spark plug while someone cranks the engine over to check for spark.
Is the engine throttle body or port fuel injected? Either way if you have spark then you have to check to see if fuel is being sprayed in to the manifold or intake ports.

Did you wire up the oil pressure safety switch to your new electric fuel pump?

You need to narrow it down - fuel or spark. Then go from there.

THis is a long shot, You mention the engine was at TDC, are you sure it was at TDC on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke?

Just a thought

+1
I was thinking the same thing. If it was TDC on the wrong stroke, then your distributor is 180deg off.

MMMmm I'm not certain. I'd think the rebuilders would set it correctly but who know

whats the best way to find compression stroke when I cannot turn at crankshaft? as the water pump covers crank bolt. I can use starter to crank but don't fancy sticking my finder over the whole with starter cranking

Pull your spark plugs, put it in gear & use a prop' wrench to turn the prop'.

Have you confirmed you are getting fuel?

OK am making progress :-)

There is no spark. I have a new gadget that clips to spark wire and tests for spark, come up none

I also checked it on the wire that comes from the ignition coil to distributor, no spark there either

I checked the wire going into the thing next to the coil and it had 12v as I switched the ignition on then nothing as I was cranking the engine.

Only other thing I'm not sure of was a sensor I forget where I removed it from (pic 1 below) not sure if this would affect it)

I would appreciate any advice where to go from here. I have no idea why there are no errors showing on the diacom software. I have attached screenshots of that software. Does this ring any alarm bells for any experts out there please

I'm not familiar with your engine but if that is a crankshaft position sensor that would explain why there's no spark....I think you need an engine/drive shop manual to figure this all out.
