Post subject:  Boaters are the best people

Spent the first overnight in our Vista with my wife and kids (I have done it, but she gets seasick so it was always a tent). One of the key factors was being able to use the head, which I have never used because we hadn't really needed it where we had camped before.

So I clean out the bathroom and proceed to fill the fresh water tank of my sanipottie and water began to run down the side...not good there's a crack but its in the top so not the end of the world. We can use the shower head to rinse the bowl out and flush.

So at the end of the trip we are about to head out and I am talking with the other people about where to pump out...they ask if "I have the adaptor?" ??What adaptor?? learned something that day about marine heads and boaters...

It was past 5 o'clock no marinas open. One of them GAVE me their adaptor! Said they would by a new one when they got back to the Marina Monday morning.

Then I had to find the pump-out station and figure out how the damn thing worked. Tip for anyone else...the lever on the hose that connects to the adaptor opens the suction.

I just couldn't seem to get every drop out of the holding tank? Did I do something wrong? I filled it with water and pumped it out several times.

It doesn't empty completely. The suction tube doesn't go completely to the bottom of the potty. There has to be enough gap at the bottom to suck out any "solids". I did the same thing of adding fresh water several times to get it clean.

Im new to the pump out this year so don't take my word as the best instructions I've never actually read any instructions on how to properly pump out.

LV Chris;

you did the correct thing during pumpout......Some mainas have a bucketful of adapters to fit all kinds of pumpout fittings on various boats......And yes, you can't fully get every drop out of the holding tank. I have exact same boat and head as you, and there's always a bit of - whatever!- left in there! As I pump out the tank, my wife and son are in the cabin readxy to fill the tank w/ fresh water, then I pump out again.....I can get most of the contents out that way, then toss in new treatment and I'm ready to go!
PS- don't mean to change subject or hijack the post, but I would like your advice about replaceing my throttle/shift control as you did on your boat this year......It's my project for next spring as I'm getting ready to haulout for the winter.....
thanks,
Steve
