Ok it was a busy weekend (this is my third problem post) Found out while I was replacing the alternator belt that the water heater is leaking into my bilge. I didn't even know where to start to replace this? Looked it up on amazon, and here it is...$350 http://www.amazon.com/Atwood-EHM6-SM-Electric-Heater-Exchanger/dp/B0040VKHMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443468728&sr=8-1&keywords=EHM6+WATER+HEATER+6+Gallon%2C+110V%2C+with+heat+exchanger Ha s anyone ever replaced theirs? Will I be able to get this monster out of that engine compartment with out disassembling half the engine? Thoughts? Maybe a way to fix it without replacing? TIA, |

What is leaking on it? Looks like you can remove the cover in the boat by removing a few screws. |

Water seems to be seeping out of it...hard to say since I can't see the back. But I see your point I probably need to investigate it further before just replacing it. For all I know there could be a hose behind it leaking. |

Mine is knackered too Chris, and i've yet to replace it as it's so expensive. I will probably do it over the winter. Can you remove the cover, disconnect, disconnect and remove the batteries and then get it out that way? That's how i was planning! |

I just replaced my Atwood recently, unfortunately I saw no way to get it out of the engine compartment without pulling the engine or disassembling it. I had to pull my engine to repair my transom shield a few weeks ago and I went ahead and replaced the heater while the engine was out. The was a considerable amount of corrosion to the sheet metal housing on backside of the heater, I think the tank would have been compromised in the near future. I'm pretty sure there is no way to repair a leaky tank especially while it is sitting in the engine compartment. I went with the Isotemp SPA 25, so far I'm pretty happy with it. http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?pat ... id=2357713 |

I had mine replaced in my V248 '02 and it was $480 for the unit (6 gal heater and exchanger) and she works like a champ. I think it was 2-3 hours labor, so not a big deal, but I wanted hot water for those overnights and quick showers, so it was worth it to me. Mine had been corroded and useless after 10 yrs of use I guess.
