Not badly - but does slip under strain.
I assume this in normal?

There is a tensioner / break that can be adjusted.

On my unit I can adjust the break by putting the manual handle in a slot located in the centre of the drum.

It may also be the line. When I changed my anchor line, I found the new line had a coating that was a little more slippery than the old line. Just a thought!

Depends on what model and make you have, but the subject above was the answer to my issues. I found that the tension spring was completely gone from mine!!

Mine slipped, but it could be tightened up using a dedicated splined wrench in the central socket (the same wrench can be used to turn it manually via a socket offset to the centre in case of failure). The splined wrench looks like it could float. ( Note to self, check that and fit a retaining line if it doesn't !). Mine came with a spare tensioning arm.
