Post subject:  Faulty RPM Gauge on 2004 Four Winns Vista 288?

Hello all.

First time poster here. Just took delivery of a "new to me" 2004 Four Winns Vista 288.. Pictures will come I promise...but I have a question.

Engines are 4.3L Volva 225 hp.

I was out at the lake this weekend and throttled both engines up. Port Engine was reading around 3800 rpm (wasn't quite wide open) but the starboard engine was only showing 2000 rpm. I was tracking straight, so I don't believe that gauge was right. Am I right to assume that something is wrong with the RPM Gauge?

Thanks in advance,

Todd

Do you have 3 speakers up each side of the arch?
Is the front sunpad an OEM item?

I have 3 speakers up each side of the arch plus two in the top of the arch....Plus two subwoofers under the U shaped seating area.

And yes...the front sunpads are custom made so that they can recline.

Cool setup & love the name!
What components are in your audio system?

Are there any wiring diagrams anywhere to show how to run cables throughout the boat? For example...I'd like to run an HDMI cable and a power cable to the top center of the radar arch....HDMI would come from the Main Panel area....Power from.....whereever :)

I have several things I want to do cable wise in the future (like add 5v usb power in the aft cabin area) and have no idea where to even start.

Thanks,

Todd

An engine going 3800rpm and an engine going 2000 rpm should sound vastly different. If they sound the same, it must be your tachometer (RPM Gauge). If things sounded pretty normal while cruising, try pushing left engine throttle forward and listen for it's sound to be at a higher pitch (rpm). Return to normal and then do the same thing to the right. If each engine sounds like it can be set to a higher rpm than the other...then that should confirm that the problem is the tachometer.

if your central sync meter = 0 then the revs are matched and one tacho is wrong. Which seems likely.

If they are Faria tachometers, then they have a lifetime worldwide warranty. I had one replaced, awesome customer service ( they sent me a new one !).

I'll tap the gauge next weekend (assuming we're not flooded out of the parking lot again) this weekend.

Graham...yes I believe they are Faria tachs.....that being said...how did you go about getting one replaced if necessary?

I was haveing alot of problems with both of my tachometers I removed the gauge panel and found all the wire terminals on back of the tachs and the syncronizer were loose I cleaned and thighted all conections and it fixed all the problems I would start with that and go from there
