My Ray215 VHF finally bit the dust and I need to replace it but I am having trouble finding another VHF that is wide enough to fill the Ray215's cavity. The flush mount needs to be a width of 7.5" to cover existing holes. If I can't find a wide enough VHF, then plan B will be to buy a new instrument panel so I can cut the proper sized hole. Anyone know what those run these days ![]() |

I replaced mine with a Lowrance VHF. I had to trim the hole bigger to fit.... Never thought to check the depth of the new radio. Turns out the new radio was deeper and hit my steering cable. I had to build a 1" collar to make it work. My point, watch the depth. It really sucked, and I might just get a new dash pannel and start over... I am a bit worried to look at what the cost will be. |

When I pulled out the DVD player from the electronics cabinet in the cabin (installed a new TV with built in DVD) I had a starboard panel made to cover the hole. Might look at doing a trim ring to bridge the gap? Here is where I sourced it. I'm very happy with how it turned out. http://www.boatoutfitters.com/king-star ... -size.html |

Its a part of your safety equipment. I would not be cheap on it. |

Uniden's reviews aren't bad but the store branded model built for West Marine that fits this flush mount bracket, West Marine VHF580, is a POS according to the reviews. I don't know why the difference in quality between the two "brands" but you would think they would be about the same since both are built by Uniden (unless WM told them to cut corners for more profit). |
