| Post subject: | Replacing swivel lights |
There are two cabinet mounted swivel lights in the cabin of my 278 Vista. Both are missing the on/off switch. I bought led replacement lights but can't figure out how to get the old lights off. They have a screw cover that that turns a quarter turn but don't want to come off in either position. Do I pry them? Any help would be appreciated. |

The quarter turn on the cover is the on/off switch on mine. As for replacing the bulb, not sure as I have never had to replace, so have not dug into it. |

One of mine is broken at the swivel and just hanging by the wire. I was thinking of replacing both with LED fixtures since the originals are like little heaters when they are on. What lights did you buy to replace them? I'm going to be at the boat next week and was going to crawl in and remove the broken one so I know how it mounts. I'll let you know how they come off if I figure it out. |

Sorry about the long delay to answer. Holiday's were hectic. Thanks for the reply's,I will be on the boat tomorrow and an electrician friend is coming over so if I can't figure it he will and I will post what we find tomorrow. I bought two led lights with a nice retro look. I will get the info from the box and post that tomorrow as well. |

I tried to take them off again and still can't figure them out. My electrician friend was busy so maybe tomorrow. |

I replaced ours. The base turns about 1/4 and then comes off easily. I felt like an idiot when it finally came off. I replaced ours with some very nice LED's that look so much better then the cheap white ones that Four Winns installed. You should be able to use a pair of channel locks to get a grip just be careful to not scratch the wood. |

I just replaced my mid-cabin lights last weekend with these Ming's Mark LED reading lamps and they are very nice and don't put out the heat like the halogen lights did. This might not help you since they are the older lights but for those that do have this style, you twist the outer base and it will come off exposing the screws. I ended up just cutting the wires as close as possible to the fixture since there was plenty of it. Also, keep that outer base in case you need it to cover up the drill holes in the event the new fixture base isn't wide enough.

Did you need to use the outer base from the old lights when istalling the Wallyworld lights? Any pics after the install? I'm going to order a set of the brushed nickle finish i think. I did use the outer base to cover up the screw holes but it is close so you might not have to. No pics of the install but I will be back up at the boat this weekend to enjoy the 80 degree weather and will take some then. |

Here are the pics of the LED lights install and you can see how I used the outer base of the old fixture to cover up the old screw holes since the new fixture isn't wide enough at the base.

They look great! I have the same problem, one of my cabin lights is hanging by the wire and has to be replaced. I am going with LED, because like someone said, they are like little ovens. Good work, and thanks for the tips/ pics and information Collin |
