Hi all thanks for your advice in my thread below. Ive had the boat looked over with a knowledgeable friend and now am happy , and have made a deposit on a 2000 Vista 248 at a dealer . It appears to be a special 25th Anniversary edition (don't know what that means exactly, but it seems really well specced! ) Will be replacing the ageing Eagle GPS with something new and buying a couple of new batteries for starters (pardon the pun) - will be asking your advice on these in other threads .. V excited and can't wait to get it all sorted..its probably going in the water early March, once all is done .. Onwards and upwards! Bill P Marbella, Spain |

Congrats Bill! My second FW but first cruiser was an 2000 248. That was almost nine years ago. I sold it on ebay to a guy in Italy. It was a great boat. This weekend I was in Florida and ended up putting a deposit on a 475. FW makes a great boat. |

Good luck and enjoy! Before launching the boat, I'd have the outdrive remove and make sure that: The bellows are not leaking water, the gimble bearing and u joints should be checked for wear and greased. The outdrive should have the gear oil drained and pressure checked. The shift cables should be checked for free movement. The engine alignment should be checked when the drive is off. These are all things that if they are neglected will cause trouble once its in the water. So it should be done now. This is what I do with our boat every fall. If in salt water (where slipped? Med Sea?) keep an eye on that joint between the exhaust risers and the exhaust manifold. If you see any sign of leaking, the risers should be removed (drain manifolds first) and the exhaust checked out. Because if they leak salt water into the center exhaust passage it will rust exhaust valves and cause a lot of trouble. I am not a fan of Volvo's and the older Merc style manifolds in salt water. There is not much material to seal that gasket and when it gets corroded you have problems. I like the Merc dry joint system better and when my boat needs manifolds next time (probably in 2 seasons) I am going to adapt a set to the old OMC V-6. Already figured out how to it ![]() |
