Help us out a bit Mark72. Give us a little more detailed explanation of what the issue is. I'm not sure the question / querie is as clear to the readers as it is to you as detailed in the initial post.

There are no pictures that came through. Have never seen seat vinyl that looks like ostrich.

Using the picture below taken from my 2005 boat, can you detail the problem. I get the impression that you have issues where the white vinyl and tan vinyl meet, where there is a darker strip of "piping" (not sure this is the correct term).

Clarifications would help. If I recall correctly, some of the tan vinyl does have a bit of a roughened texture, especially the top 2" of the tan vinyl on the companion seat, just above the "piping" and below the white vinyl.

Sting Ray you are right on the description you gave it is the part above the piping below the white at the top of the seat. I don't know if our new to us boat is just dirty or if the rubbed the color off of it.

Found another picture that I enlarged to show the different textures, and there is indeed a bit of a colour difference. You can see both a change in color and texture on the area above the piping - it is not smooth like the bulk of the tan vinyl.I am sure that it came that way from the factory.

I have only used the recommended 303 products (Cleaner and UV protectant) to maintain the vinyl and am pleased with the results. If it is a stain or spill that has caused discoloration, then I would consult the various threads in the forum dealing with vinyl maintenance. Each product seems to have different results (positive and negative) on getting the stains out and not harming the vinyl itself.

If you want to rub the darker spots off the rest of it, then Mr Clean Magic Eraser might be able to do that. They are slightly abrasive.

Good luck with the 348. I had a simular problem on my last boat. It turned out to be dirt build up in the lower area of the vinly material. After trying everything under the sun, I got aggressive and used a nylon bristle fingernail cleaning brush about 3" long and scrubbed the area with spray nine and wiped off the area with soap and water. Came out like new. Then I used 303 vinly protectorant. I'm not endorsing such a harsh product as spray nine on vinly but it worked for me.
