I'm really new to the electronics thing, but thought about adding a chart plotter to my 278. I don't have anything right now. After looking at it I assume it will accommodate a 5" in the stock location. Is that correct? Can I just start searching for any brand 5"? I have an extra P79 transducer so fish finder would be cool to have. Not really needed... I've been at my lake for 16 years so I know it well. Just thought it would be fun to have...

If you decide to go with a GPS/Fishfinder combo, be sure your transducer is compatible. I like Lowrance because I'm fairly familiar with it. When I had my 248. Mine was mounted on top of the dash vs. in the dash. I had a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI with a 5" display. It served its purpose well!
