Hi Folks,

Any ideas on how to improve the cosmetics of this ladder? The vinyl coating is chipping off. Thanks.

Hello,

I had the identical problem with my swim ladder on my 2000-298 as well as my current 2005-378.

What I did was spay paint the section with white paint...works well and has held up nicely after 3-years.

Hope this helps!

You could also have it powder coated, would have the best results but would be the most costly.

Mine is just starting to chip away as well in the same area. I've heard of some people having it powder coated. I will probably just remove the loose stuff, then prime and paint it.

Plus one for the powder coating. I stripped all the plastic off and had my ladder powder coated 2 years ago best $75 bucks I've spent. Took about 2 hours to get the plastic coating off with a scraper blade and heat gun. See my posts below.

as above, gotta be powdercoated for best aesthetic result and longevity.
We boat in salt and any bare metal just rusts so quickly. powdercoated properly they should last a long time.

your best bet is Powder coating.

If you decide to paint. strip the ladder to bare aluminum then use ALUMINA OXIDE Etching Primer. (it is the green stuff) then you can use a hard topcoat paint.

The ladder on our 298 is flakking as well, but I'm going the paint route since we boat in freshwater, and I really don't mind doing it every year, it's not a big job, definitely priming first.

It's nice to know that I wasn't the only one with this problem, as usual we pull together and find or share a solution.

Ours is like that too. I choose not to look at it - works every time!
