The four Winns parts website indicates these parts are no longer available.

Anyone have any tips on part numbers or where to buy new ones?

1.25"

Thanks
Eric

I have an 07 358 and the struts were curved (bent) during a transport presumably by the sling. I ran the boat for 3 seasons with no issues. The shaft was not centered in the hull shaft opening. This past fall I finally realized that the struts should be straight. I had them removed and the OEM straighten the struts and checked the shafts. One was out by a little and they straighted it also. Also replaced cutlass bearing. They may not be the OEM for a 2009 but would highly recommend. I lived within driving distance.

I received an email from the repair place that seems crazy to me.

They said shaft and struts were unable to be repaired and to replace those and repair my prop, total of $15K!!!

Look at this estimate and let me know if I am being ripped off.

My storage yard does not let outside repair people come in so I can't shop around right now.

What did you hit to cause all that damage. I would call your insurance company and file a claim. Looks like they are replacing everything including the props.

Too bad you can't have a transport company come and get you boat and take it to a different marine repair. It is a fairly easy job. Stuts, shafts and propellers can be repaired.

Props- straightened, cleaned up and checked. $200 for one and $135 other. Just like new.
Struts - Two Straightened, new strut bearings and the shafts check and straighted. $529
Remove props, shafts and struts and reinstall $700
I did the running around to drop off and pick up props and shafts. We did not replace the dripless shaft seals on the shafts were back in center of hull opening. Alignment is supposed to be done in water.
About $1365 total.
Good Luck

That quote is criminal!

My father did similar work this past year, and like fireCapt6, he did the running around him self. It took some time to but it was no where near $15k.

Regardless I don't see how you can justify the labour component.

12.5 hours in removals
33.5 hours new install

46 total man hours?

Hello Eric,

FYI...

I hit a floating log with my 378 at a very slow speed (5 mph) at the end of the 2015 season....nice move by me!

The cost to have "both" propellers repaired & balanced inc all installation charges, freight and taxes is $300.00 Cdn.

My local mechanic whom arranged the aforementioned repair will install both propellers in a few weeks.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Shaft and prop repair can be quite expensive.

My in-law's hit the remnants of an old dock in their Carver 380. I forget the details exactly on which parts were replaced because they have twin engines and this was a few years back. However, they did damage/replace/repair one or more prop shafts, props and rudders. It was a big/expensive insurance job - a new rudder had to be cast, only one prop was gone but they were told they had to replaced as a pair, etc.

A few years later, they were cruising along and the shaft which was not replaced snapped in half. Mechanics said it was must have been fatigued from the prior incident and took those couple years to finally give. Luckily, they were able to retroactively include it as part of the prior claim.

I have a 2008 V358 and my shafts got bent during Hurricane Sandy. My shop, Point Pleasant Marine found a shop in South Jersey that straightend them out. The run as smooth as the day I received the boat. I would look into this. Cost was minimal compared to replacement. I will see if he remembers the name of the place he had the work done at.

You should be able to send it out to get straightened. When I had my shaft seal replaced they sent the shaft out to check it. It was fine but it was only $100 to check. They said it would be an hourly cost to have it straightened depending on how bad it is but they said it generally doesn't take that long. This was local for me who repairs props as well, so you can try a prop repair shop maybe. They did a great job because they stripped all the anti foul paint and it was shiny like new when I got it back.

Excellent suggestion, thanks! The prop shop I am planning to take my props to this winter (adding a bit of cup), can straighten the shaft for minimal cost. Nothing about this service on their website, so glad you made the suggestion.
