Post subject:  288 Vista - Battery & Wiring Questions

I was replacing my Ship Systems battery over the weekend and found the wiring on my batteries is a mess from either the previous owner or the marina that did the work.

First, the positive leads were connected to the wrong batteries, so the "Ship Systems" positive lead was connected to the battery that was in the "Engine Start" position, and vice versa.

Another thing I noticed, both batteries (house and starting) have a 4AWG lead connected to the positive, but the starting battery also has 2 additional 6AWG leads. I didn't trace all the wiring, but I am guessing these are both coming from the onboard charger??? Shouldn't one be connected to each battery or am I off base here?

Can anyone with a similar 288 Vista post a picture of their batteries so I can at least assure myself that I might have everything hooked up the way it SHOULD be connected? I know everything was working previously, and it all seems to be working now as well but I just want to reassure myself

I would be happy to post a pic but I have a different setup than you.

How many batteries do you have... 2?

Did you trace the smaller wires yet?

The charging systems are typically routed through the switch and not connected directly to the batteries.

The wires from the onboard charger are likely smaller than 6 gauge.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to spend the time down in the bilge this weekend to trace the smaller wires (6 gauge)

Yes, I only have two batteries (for now) A single Group 24 "Combo" battery for starting the engines, and a Group 27 deep cycle for the ship systems.
