I have a 8.1 l. Engine with just under 200 hours and I am on my second belt. I have it looked at twice by my local mechanic and he had told me that the belt wearing was normal. Has anyone had the same issue and if so were you able to find the cause for the belt wearing. Thank you

Have what I consider excessive wear on my belt too. On the lower right side of engine, below power steering pump, black "dust" accumulates no matter the age of the belt. Thought I may have a pulley out of alignment. But was told it is common although I don't remember it happening when the boat was new. I carry a spare belt among other parts.

Pulley's/ tensioners are known to get surface corrosion and chew belts.
If you find a suspect one, wet & dry it & give it a coat of paint.

I had some belt wear. Didn't realize the Circulator pump was slowly failing, causing the pulley to slowly tilt at an angle that wore the belt. Just replaced the pump/pulley and seems fine now. I was able to tell it was failing because I removed the belt and there was some play in the pulley.
