Hi Folks,

Quick question. I'm noticing a stinky, sulfur like odor when pumping water into the toilet before use. After use, and pumping waste into the tank, the odor seems to go away. It seems worse when pumping water into the toilet after the boat has sat for a week without being used Does anyone else experience this? Is it normal? Note: Tank was pumped last week and I still had the odor today when using the head.

Thanks.

I notice this when filling the bowl by pumping in river water. I put up with it because where my boat is, it's a pain to fill the tank, but I think the only answer is to add fresh water to the bowl from the tap instead.

Interesting....I'll try filling the bowl with fresh water to see if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Mine does the same using lake water. I found that, for long periods of non use, if you add the holding tank chemical or even some dish soap to the small amount of water left in the bowl it won't smell. I try and flush it at least once a day when we are on the boat. That helps as well.

When I owned my 248 we had that issue, I ended installing a filter on the vent line and all was good

What treatment do you use in your tank? I use a product that introduces bacteria, I find it works well.

After each pump out we flush 3 bowls of water into the tank and repump to get the sludge. We noticed a big difference once starting this.

I use the Walex TOI-91799 Deodorizer (drop in packets). I'll try your method of sludge removal....thanks.

It's caused by bacteria/ breakdown of marine organisms in the static water in the inlet hose; worse in salt water as load of stuff lives in it !

Various "cures";

Fresh water supply, not lake/ seawater

T piece for bleach/ chemical toilet treatment injection.

Nothing poured into the bowl will help.
