Hi all.. Loving my 248 vista so far with 1 big exception....the captains seating position The seat is WAY too low to see over the windshield, and looking through it doesn't give good enough vision in my view particularly when looking out for lobster pot markers and small bits of debris. So I either have to operate standing up or kneeling with one leg on the seat! _ not ideal for a long trip.. Is this just me or is it badly designed ? Also the seat is very close to the wheel when standing up and can only be moved forwards not back Seems all a bit odd to me Any ideas gratefully received...I was thinking of trying to find a booster cushion so I can actually sit on the seat and have good forward vision over the windshield. Cheers |

My boat is a 2001 248. I don't know when it changed, you may or may not have it. I think it's called a bolster seat. See if you can lift up on the front of the captains seat. Mine folds up so u have more room to stand or sit on top of it. It still isn't great but better than what you are doing. |

Thanks Rick..v interesting ! Found another topic on this ... viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2485 Looks like they may have changed this is in 2001 !! I guess I'm going to have to place something on the captains seat to raise it up I tried a normal cushion but that was too soft to give me any height Appreciate it ! |

Did a bit of trawling around...these look interesting https://www.bolsterbuddy.com just trying to see if they have a European dealer ...importing stuff here from the states can take a long time in customs and cost a lot more! |

Whoever did away with the bolster seat should be keelhauled. What an idiot and obviously doesn't boat. |

That bolster pad idea might be worthwhile. You might see if it will fit in the storage box directly below the helm seat when you are not using it. We have the flip up bolster seat on our '02 268, and use it most of the time. The only drawback is that sitting on the edge of the bolster seat can get a little uncomfortable after a while. |

Either the bolster seat or see if you can find an adjustable mounting pedestal that will fit your deck mount. |

That would be tricky , its a double length seat which backs on to the rear seats..removing and replacing would be pretty difficult to do well (and cheaply ) Hopefully a bolster seat will turn up that fits ! cheers |

Aha didn't know that. Was thinking single bucket like the smaller boats have. BTW how do sterndrives do in the water you have? Salt water? Boat is moored/slipped? |

Im very happy with the performance so far 3000 rpm produces around 25 knots with full fuel/water and 4 people... The boat is moored in a marina , so permanently in sea water |

Does your anti fouling paint for aluminum work? That's the main problem I've had, the tin based paints worked well but they were phased out due to environmental regs and the stuff we have been using since is not as good. |

Might want to take a look at it before then...one year the growth was so bad I had barnacles growing over the water intakes on the lower unit... |
