trying to replace horn with new one. the new horns both work when i touch the wires directly to a 12v battery. where the old 2 bugle electric horn was only one bugle blows. a meter shows continuity and 12v thru switch to the old wires. when i hook up new horn to both set of wires i hear a very faint sound. when i hook up one bugle it blows normal. whats up???????????????? what should i check?????

Sounds like a ground or low voltage under the full load. Do you have a ammeter to see how much current your are drawing? |

FW at least mine a 2007 model was known for under sizing there wires. It sound like the new horn needs more amps than the old one. That would account for your problem. You do not need a amp meter. You need a volt meter. Just hook up the new horn and the meter to it at the same time. Hit the horn switch, under load the voltage will drop but how much. Look at the specs of the horn and what is its normal operating voltage. I would think its about 10 to 16V. If you read less than the specs, than you need to install heaver wires. |
