Gents, A week ago I replaced the seawter pump on starboard engine. I washed both motors. Today the port motor cranks but will not start. Neighbor put screw driver to spark wire and seems no spark coming out. Any ideas or suggestions? 2006 288 Merc 5.0 mpi bravo 3 |

No spark could mean bad coil. |

"I washed both motors"..... Sounds like you got water where it shouldn't go. You may have to dry out the system by disconnecting electrical connections and drying them out. |

I had a recent issue on one of our boats running a 5.0 Mercruiser. Process we followed was: Spark plugs check HT leads check Distributor cap check Ignition coil check Pickup sensor check ECU check Thankfully chased down to the Pickup sensor being corroded as this was a cheap replacement compared to the cost of a new ECU! Good luck with it. |

Should also say, if the spark plugs are wet (with water) then you need to be chasing down the cause of water in the engine... hope this is not the case for you. |
