Post subject:  Vista 288 Trailering Question

Hi Folks. I have a '05 Vista 288 that I need to set a bunk trailer up for. It's currently in the water and need to pull it soon. It's going on a new Venture 12.6k lb trailer (tri axle) that has been shortened to fit the boat (using the bow hook to stern measurement per the factory). My question is for anyone with a similar setup is how far apart should the bunks be set? Fine line between getting it off the cross members and keeping the overall height below 13' . Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Does your boat have an Arch? If so, you will be sitting right at or a little more than 13ft on the trailer. My boat sits at 13' 3" to the top of the arch on the trailer. I would guess with your boat being a foot larger, that you might be sitting higher than that. Maybe mine just sits that high because of the four winns trailer though.....

Yes on the Arch. 13'-6" is the max so it will be close I'm sure

Mine isn't any higher then 12.4 on the trailer. 07 288 with an arch.
Will measure mine tomorrow for you if you still need them.
Is your bunks set this way.

I am also looking to do a final setup on my trailer as my boat sits a bit higher than I like.

If at all possible could you take a 3 specific measurements?

1) distance between the bunks.
2) by using a straight edge laid across the bunks, the distance from the to of bunks to the cross members / axles along the centre line of the trailer.
2) by using a straight edge laid across the bunks, the distance from the to of bunks to the top of the fenders.

Hope I'm not asking too much... This information would be very helpful.

Alex

Its crazy that the '06 278 sits so much higher on the trailer than the 288. Must be something to do with the Four Winns trailer??

Mine are 43 inches apart on the inside edge.(large bunks)
Target bunks won't contact your hull the whole length. Maybe 20 inches. You can adjust them (target bunks) with the boat on the trailer.
The vertical bunks hold all the weight

Well it's on the trailer and home. Needs to come forward about a foot to give a little more tongue weight but it went down the road pretty good. Pavement to the top of my GPS antenna on the arch is ~12'-5". Have about 4" clearance above the fenders so I could probably move the bunks out a little more and bring it down a bit. Thanks for the help folks!

You need to watch the keel clearance if you spread the bunks
