Both bungees are broke on my 2002 new to me 268 vista. Where have you found replacements? I am not even sure what is supposed to be there, both are gone..... Thanks in advance! |

They aren't special i bought them at bass pro shop i think??? They are just black rubber bungee with a ball before the hook. This is it, not sure what length you need. https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Bungee-2 ... ber+bungee |

You can do what Rick suggested, and that is what I did. It takes a little work though. I believe its a 9 inch bungee. Have a close look at the picture that Firecadet 13 posted. Cut the hook off one end, but leave the ball end on the cord. You will have to pass the ball end through the plastic mounting plate that screws to the boat. You may have to grind or sand the ball to get it small enough in diameter to pass through the mounting plate. Then put the flat stopper plate on the cord between the mounting plate and the ball end. The flat stopper is a rectangularplastic piece about 1/8 inch thick that has a 1/4 inch hloe in the middle with a slot to one end. You might have a look around in the engine compartment to see if the ball ends and stopper plates are still there. It might be just as cheap and easy to buy replacements from the dealer. When securing the cooler with the bungees, I find it easier to hook and unhook if the open side of the hook is toward me. |

Mine broke this year also. I was planning on just cutting a bungee in half, passing it through the plate and making a knot at the desired length on the backside of the plate. Wouldnt that work? |

Exact replacement is $12.95 each, direct shipping is an additional $10.... a little steep at $35.90 total, but I went with it, should be here by the end of the week. Thanks for all the help! |

I did try a regular bungee. Both the regular bungee and the rubber straps I used seem to have more tension than the original bungees. It was harder to hook and unhook the cooler. Also, pay attention to the shape of the hook for ease of use. Because of these issues, Chris, you might be more satisfied with the OEM straps. |

That's kinda why I went with the Orem Gary. By the time I sand the ball to fit, and make sure I get the right length, I know these will fit right the first time. I appreciate the tip on which way to face the hooks, I am not sure I would of went that way |
