CO2 Detectors chirping

Ok brain trust..

My 2000 268 vista is having the co2 detectors chirping. At first i thought it was a low battery so i had them load tested and they were all good. It happens while running as well. Itll be 2 quick a pause then a single chirp.
checked alternator and its putting out 14v with a slight drop at batteries 13.5.

Also happens when on shore power.

is those chirps a code for another problem?

The CO2 monitors can go bad, and I believe this was the case on my '03 268. They chirped all the time, so checked voltage at the monitors and found it to be good. I ultimately found write-ups suggesting they had gone bad.

They have a end of life phase.5 years then they start chirping.
2000? Your way over due.

You could try vacuuming any dust which might be on the sensor.

I had tried cleaning/blowing out my old sensors, but doing that means you never know whether they really work.

I believe that since our boats were built there have been changes in regulations regarding the useful life of CO sensors. I'm not sure if this is a national regulation, but the state of Minnesota did pass a regulation (Sophie's law) after a child died of CO poisoning in a cabin cruiser last year. The CO detectors need to be hard wired marine units.

We installed new Xintex sensors in our '02 268 this spring. The new sensors have an expiration date (5 years) printed on the sensor cover by the manufacturer. The sensors are just a little smaller. The wiring is simple, one red and one black wire for each sensor. While the sensors are a little more expensive than the run-of-the-mill CO sensors at the home store, in our state it became mandatory for any boat with an enclosed occupant area.

Agreed! I replaced mine when i got my boat. for the cost it's a no brainer.

I found it to be a lot easier and cheaper to buy the home style CO detector with 10 year battery from Wal-Mart.
It even includes a monitor on the front with digital readout of the CO level.
I figure I will replace long before the 10 year battery is dead.
Plus having an internal battery to me seems a lot better in case your breaker trips during the night.

Remove the 2 old ones by removing the cover, unscrew, and unplug.
Then screw the new one in over the existing wire and hole.
Done.

I had issues with the wiring, you know Four Winns wiring.....

but they do have a shelf life as other stated.
I had a strange issue when some times it was only getting 3 or 4 volts and other times getting proper voltage so it would randomly beep. I rewired and it seemed to help. I also added in a couple extra battery operated ones because I didn't want to count on Four Winns wiring when I need it.... You can never be too safe with CO.
