Post subject:  High oil pressure on Port Engine

In the last few days my port engine oil pressure gauge at idle shows about 60 psi. As I accelerate it quickly goes to 80. You can see on the picture the other engine with normal idle.

Any ideas? Oil filter and oil are both new.

Shot in a the dark.... too much oil?

Edit: I turned the lights on, my shot missed... not caused by too much oil.

Increased oil pressure;

1. thicker oil added at oil change
2. wrong filter causing too much restriction.
3. stuck pressure relief valve.
4. ????????

The oil or filter are easy enough to fix. Other issues may require $$$. Wish I had better answers for you.

I'm guessing gauge or oil pressure sending unit malfunction. Maybe grab a DVOM and perform a resistance to ground check at the sending units of both engines and compare. Also check connectors for corrosion on the connectors, a little bit of extra resistance due to connector corrosion would skew the gauge readings

Oil quantity has not changed since it started reading high.

I changed oil filter today, just in case.

Someone suggested a mechanical pressure check. Will try that tomorrow.

I had the same issue on my starboard engine last season. The needle was pegged at 80 as well. I replaced the sending unit and all is well.
