On my 2006 288, I had an ac company come to troubleshoot my unit. I was told the compressor is not compressing. They quoted $3300 for a new Dometic 10,000 BTU unit installed. Basically, $2950 for unit and rest in install labor.

I have researched the internet and I have seen prices between $1400-1800 for units 10,000 - 16,000 btu self contained units. Dometic and Marineaire brand.

Any recommendations on Brand? Thinking of purchasing unit myself and just getting another ac company to do install.

Why not have a compressor put in it?

Dometic. Do the install yourself, very easy to do. Minor electrical connections and two hose clamps to move the sea water intake/discharge and your set. Really depends on how much room around the existing unit you have, but I was able to replace it on my 268 no problem. The 318 would have been in a PITA, not sure how a 288 is setup.

The compressor on our 328 started getting really loud, sounded like a jack hammer. I purchased a replacement compressor for around $250 I think. Had a Hvac buddy swap out the compressor. I bought his dinner and bar bill, and the unit still works great. I think the whole thing cost me about $350.
It's worth researching before dropping big money.

That looks familiar, I do remember buying it new off ebay. the compressor was just under 200, about 50 for the gas and the rest was the bar bill. The boat is in the slip next to me and the ac still works great and cold.
That 328 was a great boat, still admire the profile.
