| Post subject: | Air conditioning sea water pump |
Hey guys, i believe the sea water pump on my 2000 268V AC has failed. The water coming out of the discharge is just a trickle. I have flushed it with a hose from both the outlet and inlet and that flows fine. Questions i have are: 1.What type of pump is it? 2. can it be rebuilt? It is 18 years old so replacement might be best, but it still runs. Thanks for all the help. Jeff |

When you "flushed" it from the inlet, you did so from under the boat or hull side of the strainer? If no, have you tried re-priming it? Quickest, easiest way I've found to do this (if your not aware already), is, while the air is running (sea water pump running), crack open the strainer (doesn't require opening all the way), you will get a little water outside of the strainer, shouldn't take long, and you'll start getting flow, then tighten the lid on the strainer back up, and you're good to go. Just throwing that out there, if it will save you time/money! |

Secondly and easier way to pull water through the system is to use a toilet plunger. Get the kind that looks like a bellows and collapse it over the outlet on the side of the boat and you can pull water through. Another thing to try is using Rydlyme marine to flush the system. I'd try that before replacing the pump. |

Or just run the boat for a few minutes with the intake valve open. The movement will push water up into the pump. Once I de-winterize, I leave my valve open all summer. When running, water will flow thru the system and out the drain even if the pump/AC is not turned on just from the water force against the intake. |

I tried all of the above for my 268. Mine had sat for almost 5 years, i tried opening the strainer, using the plunger etc..... had no luck, then i put a garden hose on the outlet, forced fresh water backwards and watched til bubbles shot out under the hull (from the intake area). Then i had my wife turn on the air conditioner (while I am Still pushing Water through it). worked perfect. I think the previous ways work good also, but i think half of my issue was how long it sat, and the other was i had just lowered the hoist in so the water hadn't made its way up to the pump yet by water level.... its frustrating, but once i primed it, it hasn't been an issue, even after all winter, let it sit for 15 minutes, self primed first try good luck! |

Thanks all. Ive tried to prime it from the outlet and it made no difference, i have removed the hose in front of the pump and used a garden hose to flush it just in case there was debris in there and then backwards out the thru hull. all clean. It still was not drawing water. BWalton do you have a diagram of the pump and impeller? Also Ive seen replacement pumps made by Seaflo on Amazon for about $140 vs a March pump with is double the price. Not too many reviews though. Anyone have any experience with them? it looks identical as the original Marine Air PML250 https://www.amazon.com/Seaflo-Condition ... 50gph+pump |

Did you confirm its the pump and not an air leak somewhere along the way? You can disconnect the intake at the pump and use a bucket of water with a hose. If you put the bucket above the pump it should prime itself. |

Thanks babbot. Ill try that this weekend. Id hate to replace the pump if i dont have to, it looks like itll be a PITA to rewire. I was not able to see any connections in the bilge. |
