Post subject:  Battery charger question

Took the boat out for the first time this season the other day and the batteries needed charged. I let them charge for a little while at the dock using shore power then went out for about an hour. Upon returning I realized the #1 battery had a full charge but the #2 was dead. When I left I selected the battery switch to #2 and figured I’d let the charger replenish it. I went back today to find the #2 battery dead again. I checked the indicating lights on the charger and the lights were green meaning “ready” for both batteries. However if I took the battery selector switch to #1 or both then the light for battery #2 would go from green to red meaning it was now charging. Does anyone know what would cause this to happen? I started the boat on battery #1 and swapped the selector switch to #2 and the volt gauge was fluctuating between 10-13 volts. Something I had never seen before. Now I am contemplating pulling the batteries and having them tested but figured I would post on here for the time being as I can’t get to that today.
Thanks for any replies

If you have a basic digital volt/ohm meter, you can test the batteries, as well as the alternator, your charger and cables, without hauling out the batteries yet.

Odds are, that suspect battery got low over the winter and the cold killed it.
