I have a 20” factory bomar hatch on my 2002. My screen has seen better days. Looking for a solution to replace/repair it

For now we cut a circle out of black poster board and the screen holds it in place

We did a similar thing with a piece of cardboard, the cardboard was cut oversized so it will kinda stay in place and the screen locks it in. Been doing the same thing for years. I hate it but it works.
My boat neighbor has a square hatch so on the outside he was able to snap in a piece of canvas on top. I was thinking of trying the same thing but with the round hatch I don't think it will be easy or look right.
My other idea was velcro on the inside of the hatch with a piece of canvas. That's probably the easiest and shouldn't look too terrible if the velcro is placed okay.

Previous owner of my boat had a 1" thick round "cushion" made out of canvas. It sandwiches against the glass and above the piston that holds the hatch open, friction fit.

A bit less ugly than cardboard.

HA! we have the fancy cardboard. LOL! it's a piece I cut from a box that was white so it doesn't look 1/2 bad but still hack.
The "cushion" is a good idea. Shouldn't be to hard to sew together. I have been learning on my Grandmothers machine and made a windshield shade on our Flybridge. Came out pretty well for first attempt. The canvas shops around me are crazy busy. I can't get anyone to redo my bridge enclosure. And the one place that called me back said I would be about 1 year out on the list. Been thinking of starting my own side business. LOL!
