HI, Anybody got any ideas on stowing your outbaord, I have a 288 but its difficult to stow it where it wont get damaged ect.

what size outboard?? when we had our 288 I had a merc 3.3 that I kept in an outboard bag and it fit perfect in the back hatch...it was/is a 2 stroke so I did not have to worry about how it was positioned...can't specifically remember how much additional space there was, I'm using the same bag on our current 2 stroke 5 hp motor and it fits well in the back hatch of the 318...had to remove the shelf (which was not as easy as it sounds) but to be able to store the motor there completely out of the way and accessable to the dingy is great.

Hi thanks for the advice ....

The previous owner of my boat had a Stainless Steel bracket made,
its bolted to the side of the platform door.
The engine mounts on to the bracket as it does on the dinghy and is secured by a standard padlock security bar. Its out of the way,secure, and easy to lift down to the dinghy. See photo.....

I have a Johnson 6hp 2-stroke. I store it in a large gym (duffel) bag I picked up from REI. I lined the prop end of it with some 1" thick closed cell foam. This helps keep the prop from a) cutting the bag and b) dinging ankles and gelcoat. Works pretty well. The nice part is the handles on the bag (upright and end ones) make it a lot easier to move around. Most of the time the bag gets tucked next to the table leg in the cockpit with the prop-end toward the inside. When we need the leg room I just stow it below in the cabin.

I'd like to have something like a permanently mounted bracket on the transom but there's really no good place to mount one.

what stops you from storeing the outboard in your back hatch? Would think there would be room under the shelf, no?

I have the same problem and do the same as Bill ... for now.
I thought about the rear storage hatch but as my 298 didn't come with a factory genny, thats where I keep the portable.

The locker isn't wide enough to accommodate the full length of the outboard.

I took the shelf out anyway, it really didn't provide much in the way of useful storage. Instead I've got loops mounted to allow hanging the lines. This keeps them from sitting if they get wet. I'm considering some sort of rubber 'lip' to deflect water from dripping into the locker. I've not yet decided what sort of setup to go with.
