The deck pad on my 248 snaps in place, in many locations. And I've not had any issues with it comming loose at the boat's top speed. But I wouldn't trailer with it in place.

Mine is the same as Bretts, I too have never had any issues running at speed with head or cross winds.

mine appears to have no snaps at all, if i had snaps installed on the pad is it as easy as screwing the mating snap in the boat?

I believe so, but before I would just start drilling and installing just any screw, I would contact my FW dealer or factory customer service on what size screw they use. You would not want to use too long of a screw and go too deep.

I concour with Powell on that! Also once you go down that road, make sure all those screws are well sealed with 3M 5200 when you put them into the deck. The last thing you want is water getting into the decking.

The male portion of the snaps that FW used on mine actually had the screw attached to it.
Screw part is about 1/2" long.
