Post subject:  cleaning out the waste tank, without a pumpout.
How can I clean out the waste tank without having it pumped out. is ther a tool you can buy to manually pump out the waste tank through the pumpout connection.

I am in the middle of installing a macerator pump on my boat so that I can use any RV dump and not have to wait in line at the marina, if I so choose.
I have also been to some pumpout stations and the pump was not working, it would have been nice to just pull hose hooked to macerator pump over to the port-a-potty sink and empty there!!!!

A few winters ago, the pumpout stations closed and I had a full tank!! It was a VERY ugly scene. Im afraid to even say what we did due to fears of being flamed :o :shock:

Lets just say it included a pneumatic pump and about 30 feet of flexible rubber hose (10 feet going into the boat and 20 feet going away!).

Good news is the boat is stored on an old farm. There are no public sewers around, etc... Im not going to say anything else at all besides we had to dig a hole...lol. It stunk to high heaven. I feel bad for pumpout people. They earn every penny of those tips!! :lol:

I will tell ya flat out that I pump mine out in the back yard. (#1 only) since its sterile! :)

Nah, done right there's no stink at all. Even better if they use the screw-on fitting instead of just the rubber one. There is no way in hell I'd want to try emptying with out the proper gear.

Having replaced the tank sensor myself I can say it's not "that bad". It's certainly stinky and I'm not signing up to do it on a regular basis, heh. But if you use a decent tank treatment (odorloss in mine) it's nowhere near as bad a untreated waste. But to use a tank treatment there has to be some #2 for the bacteria to feed upon. It's a toilet and if you have guests on board it's really not practical to be the potty police regarding #1 or #2. Use it, treat it and it'll be fine.

I hear ya. I have to take my waste indicator out a few times a season and clean it. Its not "that" bad, but I guess the sight of the contents pumping out into a hole in the ground (Note: in a Michigan November too - hard ground- not being absorbed into the dirt very fast) :shock: The smell/sight factor really made it disgusting.

OT: I use campa-chem. It works great and when it starts getting really hot outside, I put in the max recommended amount. Never had a problem.

I manufactured a little device I used on my 248 Vista. It was a 1 1/2" tee that screwed into the deck pump out port. On one side of the tee was a macerator pump and on the other was a valve where I could hook up the garden hose. The output from the macerator had a short piece of clear vinyl tubing and them a standard garden hose fitting. A garden hose dedicated to the job the attached and run over the access to my septic tank. I would turn the hose on (add water to help prime the pump a bit and then shut the water off once it was pumping. Once emptied I would turn the water on, fill the tank and pump it out again. Worked great.
